Clarendon Park is a neighbourhood of Leicester, a couple of miles to the south of Leicester city centre, and just to the south of the University of Leicester and Victoria Park. It is a largely residential area, supporting a wide range of mainly independent shops, bars and restaurants along its two main shopping roads – Queens Road running north-south and Clarendon Park Road running east-west.

Boundaries

There is broad agreement that Clarendon Park is bounded by Victoria Park Road to the north, London road to the east and Welford Road to the west. The southern boundary is less clear, but for FCP’s purposes, we define it as comprising Knighton Road and Chapel Lane.

Parliamentary Constituency

Clarendon Park sits entirely within the constituency of Leicester South and we are currently represented by Jon Ashworth MP (Labour), who is also Shadow Health Secretary. As an honorary member of FCP, Jon is invited to our Members Meetings, although his parliamentary commitments mean that he is rarely able to attend.

City Council Wards

The northern part of Clarendon Park falls into Castle Ward, while the southern part is in Knighton Ward, with the boundary between the two wards running along Avenue Road, down Queens Road then along Gainsborough Road. London Road, being the eastern boundary of Clarendon Park, also forms the boundary of both these wards with Stoneygate Ward.

The Councillors for Castle Ward were particularly supportive when we were establishing FCP, and have since assisted with finance from the Castle Ward Community Fund. Our current Castle Ward Councillors are Patrick Kitterick (Labour), Lynn Senior (Labour) and Deborah Sangster (Labour), all of whom are honorary members of FCP and attend our Members meetings, council commitments permitting.

Conservation Areas

The eastern part of Clarendon Park is covered by the Stoneygate Conservation Area, which is supported by the Stoneygate Conservation Area Society (SCAS), and a small part of the southernmost part of Clarendon Park is covered by Knighton Conservation Area.

Neighbourhood Forums

Knighton Neighbourhood Forum is the first Neighbourhood Forum to be established in the City of Leicester, and covers the Knighton Neighbourhood Area, which includes the area of Clarendon Park to the south of Northcote and Houlditch Roads. FCP maintain a watching brief on the progress of Knighton Neighbourhood Forum, with a view to establishing an equivalent for Clarendon Park if we feel it would be beneficial.
